Typically made of steel mesh or heavy-gauge wire on a steel angle frame, they are capable of carrying significant weight – many models rate around 500kg to 1000kg UDL (uniformly distributed load) with Cages & Stillages. The base either uses a standard timber or plastic pallet inserted or has a steel deck. Corners are reinforced to allow stacking. Even with mesh construction, they are engineered for rigidity so they won' t buckle when filled or stacked. The steel mesh size (grid) is selected to contain contents while allowing visibility (commonly 50x50mm or similar grid).

Drop-door Gates

A practical feature on many pallet cages is a half-drop gate on one side. This means the top half of one side panel can hinge down, forming an opening to access contents even if the cage is stacked (so you don' t have to remove the top cage to get into the one below). This is extremely handy when retrieving or loading items by hand – you can reach in without having to lift everything over the top. When raised, the gate secures with latches, maintaining full enclosure. This gate design improves ergonomics and efficiency.

Stackable and Collapsible Design

Bohongke' s pallet cages are built for safe, space-efficient stacking: stub legs slot neatly into recesses on the cage below, preventing lateral movement and keeping stacks stable. By stacking-for example, up to three high-you can dramatically increase vertical storage density for bulky goods. When not in use many models fold flat: remove or fold the base pallet and the sides collapse inward to a low-profile pack. This foldable design saves valuable floor and truck space on return trips, and some variants feature nested side panels for even greater space savings.

Compatibility and Mobility

Pallet cages are designed to integrate into your existing material handling system seamlessly. They are sized for pallet jacks and forklifts-fork pockets or gaps at the base allow easy lifting. Because they sit on a pallet footprint, they can be stored in pallet racking or cantilevered on rack beams if needed. This means you can even rack the cages just like pallets, keeping things off the floor and organized. Additionally, we offer castor wheel attachments for some cages, turning them into cage trolleys that can be wheeled around-great for picking operations or moving parts to an assembly area. Lids are available on certain models if you need to fully close and perhaps lock a cage (for higher security items).
